Village Council

Mayor Jerry Iwanus

Mayor Iwanus first served on Council in 2001-2004 and was urged by many residents to let his name stand once again in 2007. "I'm humbled by the support and encouragement I received in the election and I want to work to ensure a sense of community and belonging among my fellow villagers." Having earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Alberta in 1986, Jerry currently works as an independent contractor with Altario Appraisals in Camrose. He is an active member of the United Church in Rosalind and has served on numerous other committees and boards. He lives with his wife, Michele, who is a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, and his daughter, Jillian, who attends Bawlf School. Deputy Mayor Darrell Szott

Deputy Mayor Szott is the Council veteran, having served since 1999 and having participated on a variety of boards and committees since that time. He was born and raised on a farm south of Daysland and attended high school in Bawlf. He and wife Judy moved to Bawlf in 1990 mostly because of Bawlf School's prestigious reputation and they have two boys, Chad and Brandon, who currently attend high school there. Deputy Mayor Szott has been employed with Flagstaff County for almost 30 years and is currently the County's Public Works superintendent. Councillor Jody Yuha

Councillor Yuha is proud to call Bawlf home and feels very fortunate to live in such a great community. She and her husband Greg appreciate and enjoy the rural community way of life with their 2 sons, Colin and Cory. She has always been an active volunteer within her community, having served on many committees and boards. She currently works as an Administrative Assistant. Councillor Yuha looks forward to providing effective and responsible leadership that will serve the best interests of all Village residents. Councillor Reta Porter

Councillor Porter decided to let her name stand in the last election because of her belief that all ratepayers should take a turn and see "what it takes to keep the Village running." She moved to Bawlf almost 10 years ago precisely because the village was very friendly and clean and has worked at the Bawlf Country Store for the last nine of those. She has been married to husband David for 38 years and has two grown children (one of whom just recently purchased a home in Bawlf). She is eager to serve her fellow ratepayers in her new position. Councillor Gord Blatz

Councillor Blatz is a newcomer to Council but not to community involvement in Bawlf. Over the years, he has been involved with many boards, including the Bawlf Co-op Store Board, the Recreation Board (20+ years), and the Bawlf and District Lions Club (Charter Member, with over 25 years of perfect attendance). He has been employed by Acklands Grainger in Camrose since 1976 and has been branch manager there since 1980. He's a true sports fan and looks forward to retiring in "the great little town of Bawlf".
