The Village of Bawlf was established in 1905 with the coming of the railroad and has experienced the growths and declines of a small prairie village. It was named after Nicholas Bawlf, president of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. Many of the streets and avenues have been given the names of pioneer families.

Bawlf is very fortunate to have an excellent supply of water. There are two deep wells about 2 miles south of the Village. The water is chlorinated and has a rust removal system. Samples are sent weekly for testing.

Bawlf has a well-equipped volunteer fire department. There are two pumper trucks and one rescue van. Rodney Blatz is Fire Chief and Armand Magnin is Deputy Fire Chief. To report a fire, please call 911.

All dogs in the Village must have a tag, which is available at the Village Office. Please note that all dogs must be kept in an enclosure or on a leash at all times. In terms of by-law enforcement, Bawlf is served by Alberta Animal Services.  By-law complaints must be made at the Village Office in writing.

Household garbage is collected every Thursday by Can Pak Environmental, of Alix. Garbage must be in plastic garbage bags no larger than 55lb/25kg and placed in an animal-proof container near the property line. Most other garbage may be taken to the Kelsey transfer site located 5 miles south and 2.5 miles west of Bawlf. The transfer station is open 9-5 on Saturdays and does not charge for this service.  Cans of paint and other household hazardous waste can be disposed of bi-annually through Centra-Cam in Camrose (click here for details). Old appliances, furniture, metal, etc., must be hauled to the Camrose dump, where a tipping fee is charged.

The community has implemented a green box recycling program, also through Can Pak Environmental. Each home is provided with one green box and requested to fill it with recyclables and place near household garbage bins for collection by 7:30 AM every other Monday. Collection dates are posted monthly on this website and in the community newsletter. Contact the Village Office to purchase additional bins and for further information on recyclable items and upcoming collection dates.
